Three first half goals paved the way for Cabinteely to see off Longford in the Shield Group A of the U17 EA Sports National Underage League.
The result on Saturday afternoon at Ballycorus was the team’s second win in the section. And keeps their hopes alive of a top three placing.
Skipper Gavin Doyle broke the dead-lock when he capitalised on a goalkeeping error to find the net with a fine finish.
It became 2-0 when winger Matthew Green-Delany scored with a cracking shot. By half time, Jake Murray popped up with a third score for the White and Green’s.
After the break, wide man Eoghan O’Hanlon came off the bench to register a fourth goal with a fantastic low shot that found the far bottom corner of the net.
Longford pulled one back before one of their players picked up an injury that led to a lengthy stoppage in play. Cabinteely wish the player a speedy recovery to full health. Just before full-time, the visitors made it 4-2.
With no game next weekend, Cabinteely will finish off the group on Saturday October 23 away to Athlone Town at the Athlone Town Stadium.
