Cabinteely maintained their 100% record at Ballycorus this season with a comprehensive 3-0 success over Wexford on Sunday afternoon.
After the back-to-back 2-1 EA SPORTS National Underage League Group A victories over Bray Wanderers and Treaty United last week, the White and Green’s superb team effort saw them make it nine points in 11 days.
After Cillian Melwani (twice) and Lee McEvoy went close in the opening quarter hour, the hosts went ahead in style in the 29th minute.
Jamie Dodd’s incisive through ball wide right saw Melwani flicked in-field to pick out Oran Molony. The striker peeled off his marker towards the box and expertly curled left-footed from 20-yards to the far-left top corner of the net.
A set piece doubled that cushion in the 64th minute. Sean McLean floated in a corner right-footed from the left. Evan Laughlin made an aerial challenge. The loose ball dropped to Melwani who converted close in.
Then in the 68th minute, Melwani chased what seemed a lost cause down the right flank. He got to the ball only to be fouled inside the penalty area by a Wexford defender. Jack Curran saw his spot-kick saved by Sean Martin. But the left-back followed up to last in the rebound.
The Slaneysiders were reduced to ten players in the 85th minute when sub Kieran Murphy was sent off for a foul on Sean O’Connor.
