Knighty joins Bristol City
Former Cabinteely FC player, Jason Knight, has joined Bristol City F.C. on a four-year-deal.
Jason (22) grew up in Ballybrack and went to school in Clonkeen College.
He joined Cabinteely F.C. at the age of 4 and learned his craft over the years, before signing for Derby County in 2017.
After two years in the Derby County academy, Knight made his first team debut in August 2019 in a 2-1 win away at Huddersfield Town.
Very soon he became a regular in Derby’s starting eleven and worked under managers Phillip Cocu and later under Wayne Rooney.
During Rooney’s time at Derby, he had lavish praise for Jason saying “His energy, his attitude... He almost reminds me of myself when I was younger in terms of no fear… And he’s got an aggression about him, not in terms of how he’s tackling, but in terms of how he runs, how he gets about the pitch. I’m looking forward to seeing how they do as I feel he can give us a lot of energy and a lot of creativity.”
Knight has represented Ireland at every level, from under-15 up to under-21 and made his senior team debut in October 2020. Since then, he has made 20 appearances in the green jersey, with many more to come no doubt.
Confirmation of his move to Bristol City comes after various English clubs were seeking the players signature. This is a very existing time for our young ‘Knighty’.
Those who know Jason, know he’s such a great and very humble young man. He regularly drops into the club when he’s home and our young kids (and adults!) love to see him around the place.
Congratulate Jason (and family) and we look forward to seeing you do the business with The Robins.
